What a gem of a Furmint!
The Kakas ("Chicken") vineyard is located in the Mád Basin (one of the best and highest vineyards in the Tokaj wine region). According to István, the unique soil composition (80 cm deep rhyolite tuff) is comparable to that in Burgundy. This gives the softest Furmint from Balassa amazing creamy mineral notes. It's not for nothing that he sometimes refers to it simply as "Petit Chablis." On the palate: Creamy, delicate, salty, round, complex, with notes of quince, pear, vanilla, and honey with a subtle mineral finish. It's like sipping on a Chablis. In short: "A little masterpiece!"
