Csóka Variáció a unique rarity!
On the palate, notes of dried sour cherries, some rose hips and earthy aromas. Medium bodied, with really silky acids and velvety tannins. Only 900 bottles were produced in total.
The delicate Csókaszőlő grape variety was integrated into the Variáció family for the first time in 2019. When developing the Vylyan Variation wine family, winemaker Sándor Tóth emphasizes experimentation. He imagines wines that somehow stand out from the ordinary. The aim of the winery is to present the distinctive character of the Villány region to consumers in a slightly different way.
The grape variety Csókaszőlő
The red grape variety Csókaszőlő comes from Hungary and is a real rarity. The name means “jackdaw grape”, where “jackdaw” (the black bird) refers to the coloring of the almost black berries. The indigenous variety was cultivated in Hungary before Kadarka and is now practically extinct. Due to the special properties of this grape variety, the Vylyan Winery decided to save it and plant it again on their estate. In collaboration with the Pécs Research Institute for Viticulture and Oenology, they started an exciting experiment in spring 2004 in which they grafted Kadarka plants with the old Hungarian variety Csóka. The attempt was successful, with 4000 vines, the Vylyan winery is the proud owner of Hungary's largest Csóka plantation! This ancient variety is not a cliché.
