The expressive Kovács Nimród Chardonnay Battonage 2024 combines traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with the unique cool-climate terroir of Hungary's renowned Eger wine region. The grapes are sourced exclusively from the prestigious Grand Superior classified monopoly vineyards of Nyilasmár and Nagyfai in the village of Noszvaj. Here, warm sunny days and cool nights preserve the Chardonnay grapes' vibrant freshness and elegant character.
The secret behind its remarkable texture lies in the cellar. The wine was fermented in oak barrels and matured on its fine lees for 12 months. During the first six months, the lees were regularly stirred using the traditional bâtonnage technique, creating its luxurious creamy mouthfeel. Aging in Hungarian, French, and American oak barrels adds subtle toasted notes and refined spice.
The nose reveals aromas of ripe pear, peach, citrus fruits, and yellow apple, complemented by delicate hints of brioche, toasted almonds, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. On the palate, it is rich yet beautifully balanced, offering juicy fruit, a creamy texture, lively acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Food pairing:
Excellent with pan-seared or grilled fish, seafood, poultry, veal, creamy pasta dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
