DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARD 2022
"Complex cigar box and cassis aromas with some floral notes. Well evolved and not jammy, with firm tannins."

The latest flagship cuvée from the Vesztergombi winery was made from outstanding grapes from the exceptional vintage 2017. The selling price of the iconic wine is 150 euros. It may sound bold, but Csaba Vesztergom has this crystal clear statement:

"Csaba has already participated in countless international wine exhibitions, and he believes that Hungarian wines are not good in terms of pricing. Although many experts claim that Hungarian wines are overpriced, Csaba claims that the lack of really expensive wines is also a problem. We don't have any wines that fall into the luxury category. If a wine buyer takes a look at a typical Hungarian price list, they will think, okay, another winery with mediocre wines, a drop in the bucket – and he leaves the booth without even tasting the wines, but when the buyer comes across a wine of 100-200 euros, he pauses for a moment, his attention is caught, he wants to know what's in the glass Csaba cites Bordeaux as an example Only 2% of Bordeaux wines are luxury wines, still "the others sell them" When a consumer buys a bottle of Bordeaux AOC wine, möc he should belong to the class that Bordeaux can afford.
Csaba Vesztergombi consulted the first Hungarian master sommelier Tamás Czinki working in Great Britain. The sommelier tried his way through the portfolio, including the new icon wine, and agreed with him on the 150 Euro price - with this price it fits well at the top of the Vesztergombi product pyramid."

Background information on the icon wine
The 2017 vintage is indeed outstanding: all the varieties have fully matured due to the exceptionally beautiful September and October, but the vineyards, with their ideal exposure, also played an important role in creating a wine that is great from an international point of view, but it is still a true Szekszárd wine.
The fruit for the new icon came from the best vineyards with strict yield controls - and the selection process didn't end there.
Each component of the blend matures in high quality French oak barrels.
The second most exciting phase after the harvest was the selection of the barrels: 92 barrels took part in the game. Endless combinations, but the new symbol is the best mix of the best barrels.
The cuvée was made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.
The wine was aged in barrels for a total of 26 months.
A very limited edition: only 1112 bottles were made.
The "packaging" is unique within the estate: the weight of the bottle is 1000 grams.
